Work continues on our crochet mural. After tonight, we will be complete with 5 out of 6 of the panels, making us way ahead of schedule. We of course, had to improvise along the way to adjust for the different shades but we are ahead of schedule regardless!

Happy Sunday, Lake County!

Our first buildout day of the season was a huge success! Thanks to an amazing crew of volunteers, we accomplished a lot in just a few hours—including some window painting on the Waukegan Building to help brighten up the Washington Street Corridor.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out to help us kick off the season. We’re excited for what’s ahead, but it takes time, planning, and teamwork to get the park ready—and your support is making it happen.

Special thanks to these incredible volunteers for rolling up their sleeves:

Last week, we had our biggest group yet - over 20 people! We’re so happy that we’ve been getting new people to come and hang out every week!

As we look back on our crochet mural, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who has contributed. We began crocheting the granny squares in February 2023 and started assembling the flowers in April 2023.

This mural was brought to life by ArtPark artists, Pints & Purls crocheters, and members of our community. Some were seasoned crocheters, while others picked up a hook for the first time just for this project. We are so thankful for the time and creativity everyone has poured into this piece!

When we first envisioned this mural in January 2023, we didn’t know exactly how it would evolve, especially with the challenges of Midwest weather. Two seasons later, it’s faded, but still standing strong—though it’s definitely time for a refresh.
